Pike Place Market is part of a nine-acre Market Historic District managed by the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA). The PDA is a not-for-profit, public corporation established by the City of Seattle in 1973 as part of the Charter of the Pike Place Market, to ensure the district is preserved in a manner consistent with providing opportunities for Market farmers, merchants, residents, shoppers, and visitors to carry on their tradition.

The Pike Place Market Foundation was founded in 1982 to further fulfill the Charter of the Pike Place Market by supporting social service agencies in the Market. For 40 years, the Market Foundation has granted more than $36 million to provide housing, healthcare, healthy food, childcare and a community of support to our downtown and Market neighbors.
