Month of Gratitude, Day 12: Ruth, Proud Veteran and Heritage House resident
“Who gets to go to East Berlin, stood up against the wall, with 15 guns pointed at you?”
Today on #VeteransDay we feel grateful for our veterans and their service to our country. We were lucky to catch up with Ruth, a resident of Heritage House at the Market who served in the military in the 1950s and ‘60s.
Born in South Carolina, Ruth joined the military as an intelligence officer along with her husband. She glows when she talks about her 25-year military career. In her service, she worked at the Pentagon and the White House and went overseas in Europe, even giving birth to her first son in Germany.
“It was a wonderful life. This lady won’t ever forget – who gets to have experiences like I did?” smiles Ruth.
Ruth has resided in Heritage House for the past 2 years and loves being part of the Pike Place Market community. She enjoys looking out the window at the waterfront and seeing the daily sights of the Market. They let her reflect on the extraordinary life that she feels blessed to have had.
Thank you for your service, Ruth! You’re one of the many reasons we are #GratefulForPikePlace and #GratefulForVeterans!
