Meet Kathleen Richardson!
Say hello to Kathleen Richardson – the new Executive Director of the Pike Market Child Care & Preschool! She hails from Baltimore, MD, where she’s made a huge impact on the city’s early-age education system.
She began as a kindergarten teacher at a nationally recognized turnaround school in Baltimore, while also serving as a CEO Teacher fellow working to build 20 federally-funded pilots of what is now universal pre-kindergarten for 4-year-olds. She continued this work in education by becoming Director of two non-profits: America Achieves Fellowship for Teachers & Principals, and Urban Teachers. Both of these organizations engaged in development and high-quality training for teachers throughout Baltimore and nationally; under Kathleen’s leadership these two organizations doubled in size, serving 300 teachers and 8,000 students!
In 2017, Kathleen and her family decided to move to Seattle. Kathleen recalls immediately being drawn to Pike Place Market, “Our community in Baltimore was based around the public market – and so I just felt at home when I came to Pike Place Market.”
Now, Kathleen is working hard on continuing to advance the Preschool’s renowned efforts to give every student access to high-quality early education. “Everything I’ve done, I just felt led to this role,” she says – and we couldn’t agree more. Welcome Kathleen, to the Market community!
