Fawn, Preschool Mother
Fawn works on the safety team for the Metropolitan Improvement District in downtown Seattle and has a special gift for connecting with our homeless neighbors, because she’s been there herself.
She was homeless on and off for three years and lived in a Tent City just before her youngest child was born. Luckily, the YMCA helped her move into housing just before she gave birth.
Fast forward two years and Fawn is back out on the streets, but this time she’s sharing her knowledge and compassion with others who struggle to find services, housing and a community of support to get stable and housed. In just one year she’s been recognized by her employer for doing such great work and was promoted to Team Trainer and awarded Employee of the Month.
Fawn has the confidence to go to work each day knowing her two kids are safe and well-cared for at Pike Market Child Care and Preschool (PMCCP). Her daughter Spring was just six months old when she joined the Sweet Peas room for babies and her son Zion is in the Moon Beams classroom at PMCCP.
Fawn attributes the Market community to helping her find the stability she needed to start a career and provide for her family.
Now, when Fawn picks up her children up at the preschool in the afternoons she can also afford to shop the produce stands in the Market and bring home healthy food for dinner with the support of the Market’s Food Access Program. She now enjoys seeing her kids’ eyes light up when they see her bringing home fresh fruits like apples and ‘naners! – their nickname for bananas.
