Announcing our $1.4M investment in the Market’s community services
While Pike Place Market businesses continue to adapt to these challenging times, the vital (and often unseen) social services of the Market are also working around the clock to keep our community safe, stable and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks to the support of more than 4,000 donors last year, we are proud to announce our investment today of $1.4 million in unrestricted grants and funds to support these important services in the Market this year. These funds will go far to support our partner social service agencies and community initiatives such as:
- The Pike Market Senior Center
- The Pike Market Food Bank
- Neighborcare Health at Pike Place
- Heritage House at the Market
- Pike Market Childcare & Preschool
- The Market Commons
- Market Community Safety Net
- Food Access Program
“These funds will help to stabilize services now as our partners and programs adapt to meet the urgent needs during these unprecedented times,” said Lillian Sherman, Executive Director of the Pike Place Market Foundation. “We are grateful for the enduring support of our community and we know how important these resources are now, more than ever.”
This support will fund emergency safety net grants, food assistance, health care and resource navigation and referrals for Market workers, many of who are suffering the loss of jobs and income right now. Our grants will also help to shore up the critical services that more than 11,000 Market and downtown residents rely on such as the Market’s food bank, medical clinic, senior center, preschool and resource center for ongoing support.
With the growing and unparalleled need we’re seeing in the community right now, we are preparing to launch “Power of Pike Place” a COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund. The goal of the Power of Pike Place campaign is to raise an additional $3.5 million or more this year to respond to the emergent needs through the COVID-19 crisis and to ensure stabilizing funds are available to support the people and the services who make the Market what it is.
Pike Place Market’s needs will not be fully addressed by these funds. We are collaborating with our Market service partners to prioritize safety, sanitation and access to care for our neighbors and stability for workers directly impacted by this crisis. The Market needs YOU to support our community.
