Help sustain the legacy of farmers at Pike Place Market

Through 117 years of thriving growth and weathered storms, Pike Place Market remains true to its core mission as one of the oldest operating farmers markets in the nation. Unfortunately, threats of urbanization, climate change and rising costs are creating a compounding set of challenges that threaten the livelihoods of Market farmers.

In May 2024, we launched a new Farm Fund to respond quickly to the current and emerging needs of the farm community and inspire future action. Our goal is to raise $220,000 to support Farmers at Pike Place Market this year! Read more about the Farm Fund

“It’s not an easy business to be in,” says Xee Yang-Schell, of Yang Farm in Monroe, Washington.

“And maybe we make it look easy, but it takes a huge toll to be a Market farmer: physically, mentally, emotionally . . . Some things need to change, or else there won’t be any more farmers at the Market.”

“With the tremendous rise of cost in seeds and bulbs, we made plans to reduce our offerings in 2023. This grant came at the perfect time. We’ve been able to meet our orders from years previous and we’re excited to see our farm recover from the difficult past few seasons.”
