Paper size: 20 x 22.5 inches
Hand-made and hand-printed by Northwest artist Thomas Wood using centuries-old printmaking techniques. “History of the Northwest” depicts native cultures of the land meeting industrial development of the city. Stoic totem poles and a lone canoe invite the viewer to explore the landscape beyond leading to the Space Needle in the modern city skyline, and fishing boat in the bay. A tumultuous sky swirls with flying fish, creatures and an orbital saucer. Thomas Wood is an established painter and award-winning printmaker who has exhibited nationally and internationally. Wood’s diverse prints from 40 years of printmaking range from oneiric fantasies to naturalistic views and employ such varied techniques as etching, drypoint, mezzotint, Chine collé and engraving.
