What Investment Makes Possible for the Pike Place Market Community

Posted September 2, 2026

Pike Place Market is a Seattle landmark, but that’s only part of its story. It’s also a neighborhood, where people live, work, learn and build their lives. Pike Place Market Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Tisdel Schorsch and Velma Chaney, Market Commons Resource Manager, recently sat down with KOMO News’ Steve McCarron on ARC Seattle to talk about that side of Pike Place Market.

Like any neighborhood, the Market community is made up of people who need access to food, healthcare, housing, childcare, economic stability and social connection in order to thrive. That’s where the Foundation’s mission comes in. Through partnerships, programs and community investments, it helps connect people to those resources.

Support from the broader community makes that work happen. That generosity fueled the largest annual investment in the Foundation’s history, providing more than $1.5 million for essential services across the Market community. But a number can only say so much. Jennifer and Velma talk about what that support looks like in people’s lives, and the difference it can make over time.
