November 2nd Proclaimed “Let’s Keep the Market Day”!

Yesterday, we welcomed the Mayor’s office, King County Executive Dow Constantine, Seattle City Councilmember Andrew Lewis representing District 7, the Friends of the Market, and Market members to celebrate the Proclamation Day for the 50th Anniversary of the Citizens’ Initiative to Keep the Market!

“Whereas fifty years ago on this date the voters of Seattle overwhelmingly approved the “Let’s Keep the Market” citizens ballot initiative that saved Pike Place Market from certain destruction; and…

Whereas the work of preserving this place – the Soul of Seattle -” is an on-going challenge that continues as we all work to support Pike Place Market and ensure its vitality for future generations, and

Whereas we applaud the citizens of Seattle who saved Pike Place Market on November 2, 1971 and who continue to take action by working, shopping, donating, advocating and volunteering to keep the Market strong!”
