Past flying fish, and tucked away behind the butcher and the tea shop is a secret garden at Pike Place Market? Tended by a team of Market residents and boasting its very own chalkboard piggy, the Pike Place Market Secret Garden is bursting with produce and community.
Annie, former Market crafter and now resident, moved to the Market after suddenly experiencing homelessness. She then isolated herself in her apartment out of shame and guilt, but volunteering at the Secret Garden is what brought her out of her shell and helped her seed a second chance at life. Now Annie is an active participant in the Market community: she now leads a crafting class in The Market Commons, she volunteers at the Food Bank, and she benefits from the Market’s Food Access Program.
