Pike Up! Campaign reaches halfway mark in $9M goal

Posted April 26, 2016

Pike Place Market Foundation is pleased to announce that we have  reached the halfway point in the Pike Up! Campaign, a $9 million capital campaign launched to help complete Pike Place Market’s MarketFront. Thank you, Seattle, for helping us reach this historic milestone in Pike Place Market!

To date more than 2,400 Piggybackers have banded together to support the MarketFront, raising more than $4.5 million thus far.  This goal was reached, in part, because of the generous contributions from corporate and philanthropic citizens such as Starbucks, the Estate of Leann Loughran, Nordstrom, the Estate of Gloria Metzger, Urban Visions, Matt Griffin and Evelyn Rozner, Joshua Green Foundation, Joe and Pat Desimone, and the True Family.

Remember when we kicked off the Pike Up! campaign in October 2014 with giant parade through Pike Place Market, and we raised a Pike Up! flag over the Public Market sign? Since then, together we've accomplished a great deal AND raised $4.5M and counting for the future of our Market!

“With the help of so many generous individuals and businesses in our community, we are halfway to our goal! Yet, we need everyone’s help to get to the finish line,” said Lillian Sherman, Executive Director of  Pike Place Market Foundation. “Now is a historic moment for the future of Pike Place Market and we invite our community to be part of it!”

The Pike Up! Campaign still has $4.5 million to raise to complete the $73 Million Market expansion project. More than 15,000 donors have the opportunity to support the Pike Up! campaign by writing their name or personal message into Market Charms, Bronze Hoofprints and Mosaic Tiled Fish that are all part of the new MarketFront design. It’s the first time in more than 30 years, since the 55,000 tiles were named on the Market floor, that the public has the opportunity to write their names into Pike Place Market’s history.

With the MarketFront’s Plaza being poured in August, the deadline to claim a personalized Bronze Hoofprint – for friends, families and businesses – is July 1.

Additionally, Russell Investments, JP Morgan Chase & Co, McKinley Irvin, Sellen Construction, The Miller Hull Partnership, Pike Brewing Company, The Seattle Times, KOMO 4, Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, and the Puget Sound Business Journal have made significant investments as sponsors of the MarketFront expansion.

Coming up on Tuesday, May 3 the Pike Up! campaign is launching the GiveBIG to the PIG! initiative as part of Seattle’s biggest day of giving. On this day, Market supporters will be asked to donate to the Pike Up! campaign and help some famous “Chief Piggbackers” in Seattle take off a piggy snout they are donning for the day! More info coming soon.
