If you’ve ever bought fresh, wild salmon from Pike Place Fish Market or watched fish thrown into a crowd of tourists, chances are you’ve met Justin Hall or heard his infamous deep growl. Justin has worked as a fishmonger at Pike Place Fish Market for 28 years. Six days a week, you can find him standing in front of the display cases teasing locals, smiling for photos with tourists, and, of course, throwing a fish.
Justin also met his future wife, Michi, in Pike Place Market – she was a longtime customer at the Fish Market. “When we started dating, I told Justin that if we break up, I still want to be able to buy fish here,” said Michi. “Justin just laughed and said ‘Don’t worry about that.'” Today, years later, Justin is swapping out his Grundens for a suit and he and Michi are getting married!
Justin and his co-workers at Pike Place Fish Market are longtime supporters of our mission at the Pike Place Market Foundation. Nevertheless, we were speechless to learn that in lieu of wedding gifts, Justin and Michi have requested that all of their wedding guests make a donation to support the Pike Up! campaign. “We have everything we need,” says Justin. “Giving back to Pike Place Market is important to us, especially with this opportunity to support the Market’s expansion.” Read more about Justin and Michi here.
Congratulations, Justin and Michi! We’re honored you’re sharing your joy with us and supporting the new MarketFront. THANK YOU!
