Pike Place Market is experiencing a pivotal moment of change with the first significant expansion of the Market in over 50 years. During these times of transformation our vision and mission for the community is put to the test. As you often hear us say, we are the heart of Pike Place Market, supporting a thriving, caring community, especially for low-income residents and neighbors.
Every day we put these words into action by connecting with members of our community, listening to the greatest needs, identifying solutions and putting them into action. We’ve been demonstrating this work for more than 30 years in the Market and now more than ever, our community building skills are in high gear as we prepare to open 40 more units of low-income senior housing and expand social services with a new Neighborhood Center on the MarketFront (image above): Read more.
As the construction of the MarketFront building is underway, so is the programming we hope to create a home for in the new Neighborhood Center. Chief Seattle Club, whose members gather in community just north of the Market in Victor Steinbrueck, is a new partner in our work doing outreach to the Native community and providing cultural and entrepreneurial opportunities through art in the Market. We’re also piloting new senior wellness programs and exploring opportunities to provide legal assistance, dental care and mental health services.
Now, more than ever, is an opportunity to make a significant impact on the well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors in downtown Seattle. We hope you will join us in the conversation as a supporter of the Pike Up! campaign to build more of the Market you love.
Gratefully,
Lillian Sherman, Executive Director
