Over the past year, hundreds of Piggybackers stepped up to Pike Up! by endorsing the Pike Place MarketFront expansion. Starting in December the Pike Place Market Foundation Board of Directors unanimously pledged their support to officially kick-off the fundraising portion of the campaign. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to complete Pike Place Market and grow the Market community we love,” said Board President Jon Pierce.
Since then long time Market friends and community members have signed on as early funders and together have donated over $1.3M to date. These generous gifts will make a significant impact. Lead and major donors to the project will be highlighted in a variety of ways – most notably the one of a kind mosaic art wall designed by Market artist Clare Donah which will recognize gifts of $25,000 or more.
Early funds have been instrumental in securing financing, maintaining our housing tax credits and avoiding cost escalations. All donations to the MarketFront help provide more opportunities for farmers, craftspeople and local entrepreneurs, as well as civic space, public art, expanded social services and low-income housing.
In addition to our board, we are most grateful for how our Market community has rallied to help grow the Market we love. Although they are not alone, two Market merchants in particular, Uli’s Sausage and Pike Place Chowder, deserve special thanks here as they both launched yearlong promotions to raise over $20,000!
New Market friends and neighbors have signed on as well! Through a series of educational events and fundraising parties, the Pike Up! message and Pike Place Market Foundation mission was shared with new and old fans alike. Joining the ranks are our friend’s at Christ Our Hope Church, 1521 2nd Avenue, Market North, Escala and Russell Investments, to name a few.
A special thank you all of our Piggybackers! A list full list can be found on here. For more information about donor recognition opportunities, or to become a Piggybacker contact Christi Beckley at patriciag@pikeplacemarketfoundation.org or 206.774.5243.
