Seeds of change atop Pike Place Market

Posted April 9, 2013

Rain or shine, the Pike Place Market community forged ahead this weekend to begin construction of Seattle’s newest rooftop garden! Staff and volunteers worked all day Sunday to construct ten garden beds that will soon be flourishing with fresh produce for our low-income neighbors. Tomorrow, Mayor Mike McGinn and his staff will plant the garden as a part of the first-ever Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service. The community garden at Pike Place seeks to engage the local Market community through growing and giving food, and to promote nutrition, wellness, and learning. We are grateful for the support and garden design expertise of Colin McCrate from Seattle Urban Farm Co., generous donations of plants from Flower World, and soil donated by Rosso Gardens.
